Student membership is limited to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing interests in the electronic media. Student chapter members will be enrolled at collegiate chapters that have been chartered by NBS. Student members shall be in "good standing" with their local chapter and pay NBS national membership dues. (Chapters may access local dues.) Upon payment of dues, a membership number will be assigned and the student will have full access to membership privileges.

Professional membership shall be granted to those individuals who demonstrate through their industry achievements or expressed interest, a clear willingness to participate in and actively promote NBS's aims and projects. Professional members must pay NBS national membership dues and any local dues if they wish to affiliate with a chapter. Upon payment of dues, a membership number will be assigned and the member will have full access to membership privileges.

National chapter membership is reserved for those individuals who do not have a chapter within their geographical area with which to affiliate. Members of the national chapter may re-affiliate with a collegiate chapter when such chapters are established in the geographical area of the national chapter member. Members of the national chapter have all privileges and obligations ascribed to collegiate chapters of NBS.

NBS and AERho Alumni are former dues paying members of the National Broadcasting Society and Alpha Epsilon Rho. Alumni members may receive periodic updates on the organization if they keep their personal contact information up-to-date. Alumni members do not receive all of the membership privileges as paid, active members.

Membership in Alpha Epsilon Rho, the national electronic media honor society, is open to those who are pursuing study in electronic media and are nominated into membership based on scholastic excellence and personal achievement.
