Did you know? is a series of information pieces that provide brief insight into the history of the our Society.  Please read below about our beginnings.  From time to time, we will take you on a journey through the history of AER, AERho, NBS and NBS & AERho.  Creation of the initial contents of these facts and factoids was prepared by Dr. Stan Tickton, who has spent most of his media career as a member and long-time supporter of our Society.

Our society was founded by a faculty member, Dr. Sherman Lawton, at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri in May 1941--68 years ago.  It was an honorary radio fraternity called Beta Epsilon Phi.  Susie McRae was the Beta Epsilon Phi President from 1941-1943.  After Dr. Lawton formed Beta Epsilon Phi he contacted student radio groups at other colleges and universities.  This led to a meeting of some of those groups in Columbus, Ohio in May 1943?

To find out more about that 1943 meeting – read the next- "Did You Know...."
